RTI

The Right to Information Act, simply known as RTI, is a revolutionary Act that aims to promote transparency in government institutions in India. The Act came into existence in 2005, after sustained efforts of anti-corruption activists. It is landmark administrative reforms in the post-independence era of public administration in India. The Report of National Sub-Committee of Central Information Commission (2008) entitled ‘Implementation of Right to Information Act, 2005’ recommends that “all State Governments must undertake, through all forms of mass media, an extensive public awareness programme to educate the people about their right to information. Also, a directory of APIOs, PIOs and Appellate Authorities should be freely available.”

To meet objective of RTI, a Directory of PIOs/APIOs and Appellate Authorities has been prepared for various Public Authorities of district Kinnaur both at the district and the sub-district levels. The Public Authorities include both State Government departments and Central Government departments. The Directory would be quite useful to the common public for identifying, locating and approaching the various Public Authorities under the Act in the district both for their RTI applications and appeals.
